A Guide on Causes, Signs, and Treatment of Gallbladder Disease

Gallbladder disease is quite common and can cause severe pain in your body. You may need immediate surgery if the condition is critical, as it can be dangerous for your health if not treated on time. The gallbladder is not necessary to live. So, if you remove the organ from your body, it will have no adverse consequences on your survival.

Causing Factors of Gallbladder Disease

Gallstones(cholelithiasis) are the main causes of gallbladder disorders. A gallstone is composed of calcium bilirubinate and cholesterol deposits, resulting in inflammation. Stones can form when your gallbladder has not been functioning properly due to obesity, diabetes, pancreatitis, pregnancy, cirrhosis, usage of hormonal contraceptives or any surgery complication.

Common Symptoms of Gallbladder Disease

A mild constant or intermittent upper abdominal pain is a natural sign of gallbladder disease. It can also spread to the front of your chest, shoulders, and back. You can experience gallbladder disorders after having fatty meals or at night after sleeping. It can be so critical that you may need to get admitted to a hospital to get rid of it. Constipation, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, jaundice, belching and abdominal extension are other causes of gallbladder disorders.

Gallbladder Disease Treatment

Remove your gallbladder surgically in the form of laparoscopic cholecystectomy or open cholecystectomy as it is the usual treatment of gallbladder disease. If there are few stones in your body, opt for electrohydraulic shock wave lithotripsy and administration of ursodeoxycholic acid to diffuse and fragment your stones.

Fluoroscopically guided endoscopy, which removes stones from your body via a catheter is also recommended. Chenodeoxycholic acid is an alternative that can dissolve your stones.
