How Much Does Your Daily Salt and Sugar Intake Affect Your Health

Salt and sugar are a part of your every meal and are quite integral to make the food tasty. Have you ever spared a thought what these little white particles do to your body? Probably not!

Sugar and salt can affect your health and pose a great risk to your body, if not consumed within a limit. It is true that without these two components, your meal can turn bland and boring. So, know how much and, more importantly, in what form, can these be taken, without causing any harm to yourself.

* Sugar in diet - If you are a regular consumer of foods that have a high level of sugar in them, you are probably suffering from a risk of obesity or tooth decay. Sugary foods or drinks, even alcoholic drinks, should be avoided as sugar gives you a rush.

You feel good while being hopped up on sugar, but fail to realize that this is leading to weight gain! Cut down on fizzy drinks, pastries or sugary cereals. However, you can sweeten your food with honey or jaggery as these will sweeten up your meal without causing any harm.

* Eat less salt - It is highly advisable to not intake more than 6g of salt per day. You might be careful enough not to add extra salt in your food, but little do you know that your packaged foods like breakfast cereals, soups or sauces have a high quantity of salt!

So, how to be careful? Have a look at the food labels each time you buy something. People having more than one teaspoonful of salt a day are likely to suffer from high blood pressures.
