There are millions who are affected by autism. Autism spectrum disorders are generally defined as a group of developmental disorders that challenges communication and social skills. Do you know that there are various types of autism disorder? If not, read on to find out what.
Asperger’s Syndrome: Individuals with Asperger’s show similar symptoms, but they are milder in nature. This is one of the disorders that shows weird interests, behaviors and social challenges among people. But, patients suffering from Asperger’s do not get affected by speech or intellectual disability.
Autistic disorder: Also known as “classic” autism, this sort of disorder shows significant problems in language, social and communication. Paired with unusual interests and behaviors, and cognitive disabilities, autistic is one of the severe and common forms of autism. People with autistic disorder shows problems when touched by other, displays repetitive conduct and faces trouble while communicating.
Pervasive Developmental disorder: This sort of disorder is often termed “atypical autism”. People who are affected with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder-not otherwise specified) either experience fewer signs or milder ones. These patients are the highest-functioning one as they suffer only from communication and social challenges.
Childhood disintegrative disorder: Though the rarest and most severe, it affects children between 2 to 4 years of age. In this case of spectrum, children develop normally but soon lose mental, social and language skills. Often, these kids also face seizure disorder.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is an umbrella term used by the mental health professionals that include its different types. The types help to assess the severity of the problem and determine the best approach to develop the required skills in a child.
