How To Find Out if you are Allergic To Animals


Pet allergy is basically an allergic reaction to proteins present in animal saliva, urine and skin cells. Most of the time, allergy is triggered by exposure to the dander an animal sheds. Dead flakes of skin (dander) are airborne and are easily get collected in furniture and stick to your clothes.

Any furry animal is a source of pet allergy, but this is most commonly associated with dogs and cats. People prone to such allergies experience signs of asthma, sneezing and runny nose, wheezing and trouble in breathing. But, there are many who are not aware of the allergies.

Here are a few signs that will help you to know if you are allergic to animals -

? Itchy at the roof of mouth or throat

? Red, itchy and watery eyes are also common

? Facial pain and pressure

? Nasal congestion

? Bluish and swollen skin under your eyes

? Upward rubbing of the nose, especially in a child

If you have asthma, you may also face:

? Chest pain and tightness

? Disturbed sleep caused by wheezing, coughing or shortness of breath

? Wheezing or whistling sound while exhaling

There are some people who experience skin issues as well, which are known as allergic dermatitis. Direct contact with the animals may trigger the allergic reaction, causing symptoms like itchy skin, red patches on skin and eczema.

However, there are some signs of pet allergy that are similar to common cold and flu. Most often, it is difficult to identify whether you are suffering from a cold or an allergy.

If any of the above-mentioned symptoms persists for almost 3 weeks, you may have a pet allergy. Seek immediate help from a doctor if the symptoms worsen or take a severe turn like, complete blockage of nasal passages, shortness of breath, difficulty in sleeping and more.
